As a new pro, I’ve bought quite a few pro wedding books to help me not only improve as a photographer, but especially in the more challenging areas of business and marketing..
This book is by far the best I’ve read (and I’ve bought 6 from Amazon). It’s the first that I’ve actually given to my wife and told her to “read this chapter”.
The reason that it’s so good is it’s a great mix of photographic hints and tips, great photos with technical data, walkthroughs of the wedding day, business and marketing ideas. I genuinely thought it was useful – and to me that’s the highest praise for this sort of book, and recommend it unreservedly.

There are many books available on the subject of wedding and portrait photography but only a rare few are worth keeping. Apart from the invaluable business advice and strategies there is a wealth of sound technical knowledge on producing a style and consistency to your work. The book itself is of a high quality finish with top class examples to accompany the text. I would say the principals laid out in this book are just as relevant to a portrait photographer as they are to a wedding photographer. Myself being mainly a portrait photographer this book has inspired me to aim higher and follow my ambitions but also to have a sound business plan at the heart of my business.
The book also makes an interesting read following Damien’s career from lighting camera man to top class portrait and wedding photographer. A book well worth keeping.

It is difficult to avoid a list of superlatives for this book. It is difficult to avoid looking like a sycophant as a result. So let me try another way to encourage you to look more closely at this volume. The production values and the design layout applied to this book mean that you have a ready source of imagery to inspire and to motivate you as there are hundreds of pictures from Damien and Julie to pore over, to admire, analyse and absorb. It is better looking than a lot of wedding albums.
This book is worth it for the pictures alone but when you throw in the text too then this will become the wedding photographer’s bible for the digital age.
You may not wish to follow in Damien’s footsteps completely and you may seek to avoid building up a heavy business debt before achieving hard-earned success. It is possible with planning; and confidence in the plan; and a rock-solid partnership.
Throughout the book there are tips and nuggets galore. For those starting out in this exciting market the book offers a blueprint of how to set yourself up. For those who have been around the churchyard a few times I am sure they will glean fresh encouragement and rekindled motivation and possibly be astonished by the work processes followed by the Lovegrove Studio.
I will not list the insights you may discover which are unselfishly given by Damien, but just offer the tantaliser that Damien gives you a foolproof way to catch the attention of a field of sheep. To find out why you would want to, you will have to read the book!
For me the book ends abruptly. It’s not that I particularly think he had more to tell us, (save an elaboration of a strategy to convince young brides not to rely on `Uncle Henry’) but rather I had so enjoyed reading Damien’s personable style, being drawn into his dream world for artistic wedding banquet puddings, that I just didn’t want it to stop. Thoroughly recommended.

I’m a new comer to photography and have read lots and lots of books looking for that something practical that will actually help, and this book is it I have already told 3 of my friends to go and buy,
This book is really easy to read Explaiened in a language that is easy to understand, Damien gives you an insight on how he and Julie work together [which showed me the benefits of working along side someone at a wedding] He talked you through how he takes his photos and why they stand out from everyone’s else.
I can’t wait for my next wedding so I can get out there and put some of the things I have learnt to practise,
I will also be reading the book again because I’m sure there is more and more in there that you oversee on the 1st read, I’ve never wanted to go back and read any other book before [must be good]
Enjoy and thank you Damien for an outstanding book.

I’ve never written a review before but feel compelled to after my recent purchase. Like the last reviewer, I’ve bought around six books on weddings and this is quite easily in a completely different league. I came across Damien’s photos in a wedding magazine and looked up his website and have been hooked ever since. I’ve spent hours looking at his wedding photo galleries online and was thrilled when I discovered that he was releasing a book. I pre-ordered it and received it at the weekend. It goes without saying that it is the Wedding Photography Bible. His style (their style – sorry Julie) is amazing. The majority of their pictures could be hung on the wall, the way they compose their pictures and use the light really is unbelievable. The book details everything (well, almost) that I imagine you need to become a successful wedding photographer. I’m an aspiring amateur and have only snapped a few weddings, I can’t wait to get out and put to use some of the easy-to-understand tips and advice to good use. If you like your wedding shoots to be contemporary yet timeless, classy and arty yet wonderfully simple, this really is the book for you. I’m saving up now to go one of his courses! Enjoy!
